It's amazing who you bump into when you're browsing the Internet.

I agree with you completely Ian. There is an education exercise to do about how easy it is to switch accountants - it often just requires a letter to the incumbents and a cheque to clear up any debts and get any lien removed from important records.

Best practice puts a named person in charge of the switching and set-up process at the new accountants so thee client has someone to contact and chase and there is clear ownership and responsibility.

Some firms explain how easy it is to switch accountants on their websites but this is the kind of thing you want new prospective clients to know but for existing clients to remain undiscovered.

Lol - that's quite funny Andrew - like you're not allowed to switch without clearance from the powers that be.

Ian

I am sure you know the jokey saying amongst accountants is most people would sooner divorce their spouses than change accountants. We know where the bodies are buried!

I have had some success explaining the process - professional clearance etc. Sometimes I have even been asked how one changes accountants as though there was a special body one had to go to or something…

Helpful article - thanks

You should indeed. Although rather than saying "moving accountants is as easy as 1 2 3" I'd be temptd to say "moving accountants is normally difficult and painful. But with our 'quickswitch' service it's as easy as 1 2 3. We ...."

i.e. imply it's only switching to you that's easy.

Cheers,

Ian,

This is a terrific post - you've got me thinking about one of my clients with this strategy. While we've discussed the idea of some sales copy that presents moving accountants as being as simple as 1-2-3, I haven't actually implemented it with them.

Maybe we should try it.
